We interrupt your day to bring you the newest Silent Movie Star!
Phoebe and I have been having a little fun with iPhone video apps today.
It's been unseasonably hot here in SF this week. Like in the 90s hot! You've never seen so many white legs in shorts, oh wait, those are just mine.
See - hot. Apple says so!
Here's how we celebrated the heatwave.
We wore our Lilly to the Aquarium.
We ate delicious Fish Tacos.
Phoebe tried riding in a shopping cart for the first time.
Who says we don't know how to party?
So if you've read this blog for a long time you will know that I am OBSESSED with scented things. My favorite aisle in any grocery store or Target is the Sniffy aisle. I always have an arsenal of scented plugins, candles, and sprays under my kitchen sink. Actually, I have outgrown that space and they are spilling over into random drawers now.
My tastes are pretty predictable and seasonal. Once I decide I want it to be fall I break out the cinnamon and pumpkin spice scents. When it's rainy and cold and I'm ready for it to be spring or summer I break out that Florals and Beachy scents.
My fragrance happy heart skipped a beat when I saw this new collaboration from AirWick!
Aww isn't that cute? The snuggle bear... wait... WAIT... is that CINNABON??
Finally, I can make my house smell like the local mall. Be right back... I'm headed to the nearest store.
I am totally late to the party but I am obsesed with Don't Trust the B in Apt 23. I don't know why I waited so long to watch it. Oh, yes I do.. after Seinfeld all network sitcoms tend to bore me. But I love love love Krysten Ritter so I decided to give it a shot. I was feeling a little under the weather (read sniffly, scratchy throat and surpremely lazy) so I sat down and had a marathon and finished all of Season 1 and half of Season 2. OBSESSED I tell you.
The writing is pretty snappy and witty and Krysten is amazingly bitchy and awesome. Also, her wardrobe. Please give me every piece.
This video does a great round up of all of her outfits. Love!
There was one episode where she wore a Purple Leopard Print Betsey Johnson dress that I TOTALLY USED TO HAVE. But I can't find it. I expect it got donated during one of my ill-advised closet clean outs. I really hate cleaning out my closet. Oh sure afterwards I feel completely amazing. All cleanesed and purged and patting myself on the back for how wonderfully Zen I am. But then it happens.
Two weeks later I have a sudden urge to wear something I admittedly hadn't worn in way over a year but now want more than anything. And, of course, it's gone. Boo. Anyway, that's probably what happened to that dress and I kind of hate myself a little for it.
But I digress.
One of my favorite "minor characters" is the Japanese Gay Hipster dude. AMAZING. ARIGATO HEEEY. I dare you to watch below and not try to incorporate that into your every day conversation. I DARE YOU!
Of course, now that I've fallen deeply one night stand in love with this show it's been cancelled. Oh yeah, that's another reason I don't watch Network Sitcoms. They always break up with me. :(
Me: "Ahh Phoebe is engrossed in chewing on her chew toy. I shall make some coffee and an English Muffin!" Delightful
Phoebe: "WAH Hey I'm over this get over here now!"
Me: Wanders over with Blackberry Jam covered English Muffin in mouth and picks up Phoebe
Phoebe: "Ah that's much better"
Me: Looks down and sees red all down the front of Phoebe's PJs. "Oh my god she's bleeding! WHAT HAPPENED??" Looks all over Phoebe trying to find massive headwound or other source of blood.
Phoebe: "You idiot you spilled Blackberry Jam on me!"
Even though Phoebe is 5 months old I still get a little jittery when I take her out.
What if she starts screaming in a cafe?
What if she has a giant poo-bomb and I have forgotten to pack an extra outfit? Or the wipes are all dried out in my stupid wipe case.
What if she drinks all the milk I brought with me and I actually have to breastfeed out in public?
What if she gets angry while I'm changing her diaper in the restroom and screams bloody murder causing a "helpful" citizen to accuse me of hurting my child. <--- That's actually happened. See, not all crazy fears.
Don't get me wrong, we get out of the house alot. We go on plenty of walks and Target trips all without incident. But if I'm getting a little bored of just doing those things I'm sure she is.
Even though it's really meant for brand new moms to do upon coming home I've decided to take part in the Rookie Moms 52 Week Challenges. I think it will help my confidence when it comes to taking Phoebe to new places and it will give me some ideas. Because my tired self is running out of them.
The first up is to "Pretend like you're in Europe." We'll be taking that on next week and I shall report back with all of the gory details.
Phoebe is becoming so much more alert and curious and is really enjoying walks and exploring new areas of the city. I've had a great time walking around the neighborhood and even braving some of the hills.
My legs were killing me after pushing the stroller up four of five of those steep beauties but oh, the view was worth it. Also, yes, it's January and the sun is shining and it's 67 degrees. Sorry anyone with real Winter weather. I don't mean to rub it in.
She's also easily bored these days so I decided to make her a true SF gal and took her on her first ride on a MUNI.
We took the bus downtown where she marveled in the sights and sounds and hustle and bustle. She really seemed to love it. We explored Anthropologie and I'm happy to report she was as in love with it as I am. Ok, maybe I'm projecting a bit there. But hey, she wasn't crying so she must have liked it, right?
Here she is enjoying well-designed dust jackets.
On the bus ride back Phoebe caught the eye of one of SF's more colorful residents. An odd toothless Russian woman who "went to Parsons in NY" told her that she is a prodigy and must go to school at NYU. She told me to research "raising prodigies" on the Internet as soon as I got home.
Oh Phoebe, your childhood in SF will never be dull!
Just like that.
2013 was a huge year for me and certainly flew by. I became a full-time housewife and had a gorgeous little baby. My life very much changed, and for the better! Now it's 2014. I've decided not to make a bunch of resolutions. I just resolve to live every day to the fullest. I think that's the best resolution for me to make. Now as a "Stay at Home Mom" I really have no idea what to expect every day. I want to expose Phoebe to lots of things and I'm looking forward to seeing everything through her eyes as she grows. I have also resolved to use my "real" camera more this year. I'm going to start carrying it with me everywhere and hopefully use it instead of my iPhone camera all the time.
The New Year also brings my birthday - I'm a New Years Baby. My first birthday as a mom was certainly different. It's amazing what sort of things you consider amazing presents as a new mom. My lovely husband got Phoebe up and dressed, fed the dogs and then they all went out on a long walk. I was able to take a long luxurious bath. I got to read a magazine cover to cover and drink a nice hot mug of coffee in complete privacy and silence. It was bliss. I was able to take my time getting ready and when I came downstairs they were all back and waiting for me with a donut from my favorite - Dynamo Donuts and a latte. Oh and there was a PRESENT as well, but truly, all of that was the best.
That bath routine used to be something I did pretty much every day and now it's a true luxury. Don't get me wrong, Phoebe is actually really great at giving me time to shower every day. We have a bouncer in the bathroom and I put her in there and she's good for oooh 15-20 minutes or so. But oh, a bath... a long, dreamy soak with a magazine. How I took thee for granted!
As long as I was on this streak of spoiling I decided to head downtown to Sephora and play in some makeup. ALL BY MYSELF. That was so strange. It was great to check out all of the new goodies and I was excited to finally get to sample the new Marc Jacobs makeup line I'd heard so much about.
I really loved the foundations all though I didnt get any. Oh, and the lipglosses are amazing and taste yummy. I'm definitely going back for one of those soon. I did decide to cheat on MAC and buy one of the compacts. They are gorgeously designed and I think the powder is equal if not better than the Select Sheer I normally wear. Of course it's more pricey so this won't be a normal purchase for me.
So far 2014 is off to an awesome start and I can't wait to see what it has in store for me!
You know, it's true what they say - Christmas really is so much more fun when you have a child. Even if that child is only 4 months old and has absolutely no idea what is going on. As the first Grandchild it is safe to say that Phoebe was spoiled rotten. She got so many things and even joined in on ripping open some of the paper wrapped gifts.
We were so lucky to receive the Bloom Fresco Chrome High Chair! I saw this beauty in a store one day and absolutely fell in love. Yes, I fell in love with a high chair. WOW my life is different these days. HAH.
As you can see, Phoebe is a fan!
By the way do you see that ridiculous pile of presents in the background? Yeah we were only about half way through opening them all at this point. Yikes. It was so sweet of everyone to spoil us like this. Luckily it was mostly clothes for Phoebe and no crazy loud toys... yet!
All that opening presents can be pretty tiring to a little Christmas elf.
I cooked up a big spread for everyone - Turkey, Ham, Mashed Potatoes, Balsamic Pancetta Brussel Sprouts, the works. And for dessert we had an amazing ice cream pie from our favorite local ice cream spot Humphry Slocombe. What you see below would be the remnants of a heartily enjoyed Guiness Ice Cream Pie with a Gingerbread crust and toasted marshmallow topping.
Yes indeed. How we managed to not eat the whole thing in one sitting I have no idea. We sure did try though!
We took advantage of having some family in town to sneak out and have a date night! Woohoo! I actually got to carry a tiny purse and fluff up my hair!
Dinner and Movie never seemed so luxurious. We laughed through Anchorman 2, happily chowed down on some tasty burgers and enjoyed a little walk though the city before heading home.
I had planned on taking some super cute posed Christmas photos of Phoebe and the dogs all decked out in their finest clothes (yes, the dogs had outfits) in front of the tree but we never really got around to it. I was busy cooking and the day just got away from us. Oh well, best laid plans.
Now it's on to New Years and my birthday. I wonder what 2014 has in store for us!
You are never too young to go a-pumpkining so we took little Miss Phoebe to pick out her very first pumpkin. Most of the ones there were bigger than she was!
Ok so she looks a little perplexed about pumpkins there but I swear she had a good time!
Also, mental note to self: Next year don't even think about bringing the stroller. Navigating that thing on wood chips was a nightmare. Baby Carrier all the way next time!
